🧠 From NICU Mama to Global Babywearing Guide

Jordan’s journey into the world of babywearing started in the NICU, when she found that keeping her son close was not only emotionally healing—but developmentally supportive. That experience sparked her passion, and now she runs a full-time virtual business helping families around the world find carriers that meet their unique needs.

Her Instagram @thebabywearingot has become a hub for accessible, evidence-based advice for all kinds of caregivers.

👶 Why Babywearing Matters (Especially from an OT Perspective)

Jordan shares how babywearing can:

  • Function like “tummy time on the go,” building core strength

  • Increase exposure to speech and social interaction

  • Offer sensory input to babies who need extra regulation

  • Give parents their hands back while staying connected

And when done safely, it supports optimal hip and spine development, making it a win for both babies and wearers.

🛠 Safe & Supportive: Babywearing Basics

Safety is key, and Jordan breaks it down simply:

  • Baby should be high and snug, close enough to kiss (think collarbone height)

  • Carrier panel should support baby’s back and keep them upright and visible

  • The fit should be secure—but still comfy for the wearer

Not sure which style is best? Jordan walks through the differences between stretchy wraps, woven wraps, ring slings, and soft-structured carriers—so you can find your perfect match.

🍼 Feeding While Babywearing: Yes, It’s Possible

One of Jordan’s specialties is helping parents feed confidently while wearing their babies. Whether you're breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or pumping, she offers real-world tips that make it doable:

  • Breastfeeding in a carrier: Loosen the straps slightly to lower baby to breast height. Use hand support if needed, then reposition baby once feeding is complete.

  • Pumping while wearing: Consider a wearable pump or try pumping in front while baby is carried on your back—great for multitasking moms!

💡 Pro Tip: Pair babywearing with the OG Breastmilk Chiller to keep milk safe and cool on the go.

🌍 Finding the Right Carrier for Your Body

Jordan is passionate about carrier fit for all bodies—whether you have a long torso, broad shoulders, or large breasts. She encourages trying what works for your shape and checking out online communities where others share what works for them.

✊ Respecting the Roots of Babywearing

Babywearing is more than modern convenience—it’s a practice with deep cultural history. From the African back carry to Indigenous rebozos and Chinese Meh Dais, Jordan encourages parents to seek out the origins of different carriers and support creators and educators within those communities.

She also shares how babywearing can empower adaptive caregivers—including wheelchair users and parents with limb differences—to build connection and confidence.

💞 Final Thoughts from Jordan

Jordan’s biggest message? You’re not doing this alone.

She’s built a whole career on helping parents feel empowered, supported, and informed when it comes to babywearing, bonding, and feeding. And she’s a joy to learn from. Check her out when you get a chance!
